Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 1,057 as four die in 24 hours

Four more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Sunday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 1,057.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all four of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 956, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 101, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the four new suspected fatalities, the highest concentration was recorded in Dhaka, with two deaths reported in both the Dhaka division and Dhaka district.

A total of 1,148 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 179,814.

During the same period, 88 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 20,562.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 158,589 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 152,225 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
