Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 973 as six die in 24 hours

Six more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Monday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 973.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all six of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 874, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 99, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the six new suspected fatalities, the highest concentration was recorded in Dhaka, with five deaths reported in the Dhaka division and four in Dhaka district.

A total of 1,162 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Monday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 157,991.

During the same period, 94 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 19,312.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 138,445 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 133,404 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
