Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 967 as four die in 24 hours

Four more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Sunday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 967.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all four of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 868, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 99, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the latest suspected fatalities, Barisal division recorded the highest count with two deaths. At the district level, one casualty each was reported in Barisal, Pirojpur, Dhaka, and Sylhet.

A total of 1,151 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Sunday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 156,829.

During the same period, 365 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 19,218.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 137,347 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 132,292 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
