Five more children died of suspected measles across the country in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of suspected and confirmed measles deaths since March 15 to 943.
According to a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), the five deaths were among suspected measles cases. No deaths from confirmed measles were reported in the past 24 hours.
Since March 15, a total of 844 suspected measles deaths have been reported, while 99 people have died of confirmed measles.
The DGHS also reported 986 suspected measles cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of suspected cases between March 15 and August 25 to 151,638.
Meanwhile, 91 confirmed measles cases were reported during the same period, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since March 15 to 18,578.
The outbreak has also put significant pressure on hospitals across the country.
From March 15 to August 25, a total of 132,554 suspected measles patients were admitted to hospitals, according to the DGHS.
Of them, 127,811 patients have recovered and been discharged.
The latest figures indicate that suspected cases and deaths continue to account for a substantial share of the reported measles burden, while health authorities continue to monitor the outbreak nationwide.
