Bangladesh has launched the Preventive Oral Cholera Vaccination Campaign 2026, targeting 5.17 million people in 14 high-risk upazilas across Bangladesh.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain inaugurated the campaign at the Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) auditorium on Thursday.
The first dose will be administered from Saturday to September 21, followed by the second dose from September 26 to October 25. Two doses, given 14 days apart, are required for full protection.
The vaccine will be provided free of charge to everyone aged one year and above, except pregnant women, from 8am to 5pm.
In DSCC areas, around 1.17 million people will be vaccinated through 192 centres across 17 wards in Lalbagh, Gendaria, Kadamtali and Kamrangirchar.
The campaign will also cover selected areas of Dhaka North City Corporation, as well as parts of Munshiganj, Kishoreganj, Narayanganj and Brahmanbaria.
The minister urged all stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring the campaign’s success, while DSCC Administrator Md Abdus Salam said the corporation was committed to successfully implementing the campaign in its densely populated areas.
