A first-year student of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at Rajshahi University (RU), Zahidul Islam Saimon, was airlifted to Dhaka on Sunday for advanced treatment after suffering a stroke.
The university administration arranged an air ambulance to ensure his swift transfer. He was flown to Dhaka from a playground near Rajshahi Medical College Hospital around 10:30am.
Saimon suffered a stroke at his dormitory on Saturday night and was rushed to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital. As his condition deteriorated, doctors recommended transferring him to Dhaka for specialised treatment.
Sourav, a classmate of Saimon, said: He was asleep on Sunday morning when he suddenly fell from his bed. His classmates later noticed that his body had become stiff and rushed him to the hospital’s emergency department.
Doctors later confirmed that he had suffered a stroke. Sourav said Saimon had also suffered two previous strokes.
After being shifted to the ICU, doctors advised that he be transferred to Dhaka as the necessary specialised treatment and surgery were not available at the hospital. He was subsequently flown to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka.
RU Vice-Chancellor Prof Faridul Islam said the university immediately arranged ICU support after receiving the news of Saimon’s condition.
“Doctors advised that he be urgently transferred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. As travelling by road posed a risk, we decided to airlift him,” he said.
The vice-chancellor urged everyone to pray for Saimon’s recovery.
