The Health and Family Welfare Ministry has restored the license of Ad-Din Medical College Hospital in Moghbazar, Dhaka, allowing it to resume operations under three conditions after a field inspection found satisfactory improvements following the hospital's appeal.
The decision was communicated in a letter signed by Health Services Division Secretary Md Quamruzzaman Chowdhury on Monday.
According to the letter, the hospital submitted an appeal, followed by a supplementary appeal, seeking reconsideration of the decision.
In response, the ministry on July 15 directed the investigation committee formed to examine the incident to conduct a field inspection and submit its report within three working days.
Based on the committee's findings, the ministry withdrew its earlier order canceling the hospital's license and allowed the hospital to resume operations subject to the following conditions:
- The hospital must continue to comply with the provisions of the Medical Practice and Private Clinics and Laboratories (Regulation) Ordinance, 1982.
- The appointment of duty doctors and nurses in line with licensing requirements must be completed promptly.
- Failure to comply with the licensing conditions may result in legal action by the government-authorized authority at any time.
Six newborns died at Ad-Din Medical College Hospital's post-operative ward on May 27, prompting a government investigation. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revoked the hospital's license on June 11 over negligence. Following an appeal by the hospital and a fresh field inspection ordered by the Health Ministry, the license was restored under three conditions.
