Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 825 as five die in 24 hours

Five more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Monday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 825.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified all five of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 730, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 95, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Among the five new suspected fatalities, the highest concentration was recorded in Dhaka, with three deaths reported in both the Dhaka division and Dhaka district.

A total of 992 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Monday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 124,745.

During the same period, 113 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 15,555.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 107,654 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 103,467 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
