Measles outbreak: Death toll reaches 731 as two die in 24 hours

Two more children have died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours leading up to 8:00am on Saturday, raising the overall death toll from the ongoing outbreak to 731.

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has classified both of the latest casualties as suspected.

With the latest figures, the total number of suspected measles deaths has reached 638, while the number of confirmed deaths remained unchanged at 93, as no new confirmed measles deaths were reported in the last 24 hours.

Of the two new suspected fatalities, one was reported in the Dhaka division and the other in the Sylhet division. At the district level, the deaths occurred in Dhaka and Habiganj, with one casualty reported in each.

A total of 732 suspected measles cases were recorded in the 24 hours till Saturday morning, taking the overall suspected case tally to 104,693.

During the same period, 101 new confirmed measles cases were reported, bringing the total number of confirmed infections to 12,526.

Since March 15, 2026, a total of 87,966 suspected measles patients have been hospitalized across the country, of whom 84,218 have recovered and been discharged from hospitals, according to the DGHS.
