Child dies with measles symptoms in Sylhet, death toll rises to 69

A child died with measles symptoms in Sylhet in the last 24 hours, ending three days without any reported deaths linked to the disease or its symptoms in the division.

The information was disclosed in the Directorate General of Health Services' (DGHS) Sylhet divisional bulletin published on Sunday.

The deceased was a five-and-a-half-month-old child from Sunamganj Sadar upazila who died while undergoing treatment at Dr Shahid Shamsuddin Ahmed Hospital in Sylhet.

According to the bulletin, 63 people were admitted to hospitals across the Sylhet division with measles or measles-like symptoms between Saturday morning and Sunday morning.

With the latest admissions, the number of patients currently undergoing treatment in hospitals across the division stands at 295.

The report also said no new measles cases were confirmed through laboratory testing in the Sylhet division during the same period.

The total number of deaths associated with measles and measles-like symptoms in the division has now reached 69. Of them, four deaths were confirmed as measles-related, while the remaining deaths were reported among patients showing measles symptoms.
