Measles outbreak: Eight deaths in 24 hours, toll rises to 432

Eight more people have died from measles and suspected measles across Bangladesh in 24 hours till 8am taking the overall death toll to 432 since March 15, the latest bulletin of Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS),

Of the latest deaths, one was confirmed as caused by measles, while seven others were reported as suspected measles deaths, the bulletin said.

The latest figures bring the total number of confirmed measles deaths to 69, while deaths involving measles-like symptoms have risen to 363 during the same period.

Health officials said 1,489 suspected measles cases were reported during the same period, raising the total number of suspected infections nationwide to 53,056 since March 15.

Among those, 126 cases were confirmed as measles in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 7,150.

Since March 15, a total of 38,054 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals across the country, according to the DGHS.

During the same period, 33,832 patients have recovered and been discharged from hospitals.
