Measles outbreak: 11 deaths in 24 hours

Eleven more deaths from measles and suspected measles were reported in the last 24 hours across the country. Of these, four were confirmed measles deaths, while seven were suspected cases.

Since March 15, 65 people have died from confirmed measles, and 344 have died from suspected measles, according to the Directorate General of Health Services. In total, deaths from measles and its symptoms have reached 409, compared to 352 the previous day. The increase includes updated data on 57 suspected deaths.

The information was released on Sunday in a press release from the DGHS control room. It said that data from Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, Rangpur Medical College Hospital and Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal were reconciled with information from the respective Civil Surgeons’ offices.

The DGHS report stated that four more people died from confirmed measles in the last 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed deaths since March 15 to 65. During the same period, seven deaths were recorded as suspected measles cases, taking the total suspected deaths to 344.

In the last 24 hours, 1,503 suspected measles patients were recorded, while the total since March 15 stands at 49,159. Of these, 205 were confirmed measles cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total confirmed cases to 6,819 since March 15. The number of confirmed cases decreased following data correction from Dinajpur district.

Since March 15, 34,909 patients with measles symptoms have been admitted to hospitals, while 30,862 have recovered and been discharged.
