Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the prime minister Dr Zahed Ur Rahman on Tuesday said action will be taken if any negligence is found in measles vaccination following an investigation.
He said those responsible will be identified through a proper inquiry, and disciplinary measures will be taken if allegations are proven.
Dr Zahed said crises should be treated as learning opportunities to prevent similar situations in the future. “The recent measles situation should not be repeated with any disease,” he added.
He also urged restraint in public discourse, saying unnecessary debate or confusion over sensitive public health issues should be avoided.
“The country’s vaccination programme has long been conducted under an internationally standardised system. Some changes were considered within that framework. I do not believe there was any ill intent on the part of those involved,” he said.
He added that there was no basis to suggest that the interim government intended to create a situation leading to child deaths.
Emphasising the need for accountability, Dr Zahed said the government has already held discussions with relevant ministries and will initiate a formal review process.
“The government is committed to ensuring such a situation does not recur, whether in relation to measles or any other health risk,” he said.
He added that the ongoing vaccination programme will continue and be further strengthened, with enhanced caution following the recent developments.
