Measles outbreak: 5 deaths, 1,229 suspected cases in 24 hours

Five more children have died across the country from suspected measles in 24 hours till 8am Wednesday, according to the Directorate General of Health Services’ (DGHS) bulletin.

During the same period, 1,229 new suspected measles cases were reported, the DGHS said.

The total number of suspected measles cases between March 15 and on Wednesday has reached 27,164, while confirmed cases during the period stand at 3,934. In the last 24 hours, 129 cases were confirmed.

Since March 15, a total of 17,998 patients with suspected measles have been admitted to hospitals, while 14,892 have recovered and been discharged.

The DGHS said no deaths from confirmed measles were reported in the last 24 hours. However, 38 people have died from confirmed measles between March 15 and Wednesday.

During the same period, 190 deaths have been recorded among suspected measles cases.

Division-wise data show the highest number of suspected cases in Dhaka Division, with 12,058 infections reported. Of them, 2,634 cases have been confirmed as measles.
