Nine more children have died across the country in 24 hours till 8am Tuesday amid a measles outbreak, while 1,105 new cases with measles or measles-like symptoms were reported, according to health officials.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in tis latest measles bulletin said one of the deaths was caused by measles, while the remaining eight children died with measles-like symptoms.
During the same period, 1,105 children were admitted to hospitals nationwide with measles or related symptoms. Of them, 176 were confirmed to have measles.
According to DGHS data, a total of 31 children have died from measles since March 15. However, 164 deaths have been reported over the same period among children who showed measles-like symptoms.
In total, 18,231 cases with measles symptoms have been reported since March 15, of which 11,652 required hospitalization. Among the admitted patients, 2,897 cases were confirmed as measles, while 9,304 have recovered and been discharged.
The report also said six of the nine deaths reported in the last 24 hours occurred in the Dhaka division.
