Yunus urges coordinated efforts to improve maternal, child health

Chief Adviser Dr Muhammad Yunus has stressed the need for collective efforts at all levels -- local and global -- to improve maternal and child health.

In a message marking World Health Day on Monday, Yunus said: “More action programs are needed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, which remain a major challenge."

“Concerted efforts are needed at all levels, both national and international, to overcome this challenge,” he added.

The day will be observed in Bangladesh and other countries with the theme "Healthy beginning, hopeful futures.”

In Bangladesh, the message of the day will be "Safe birth for bright future," which the chief adviser described as appropriate and timely.

He said the Health Ministry has been working tirelessly to improve maternal and child health.

“Various action programs are being implemented by both the government and private sector. Development partners are working with the government to improve maternal and child health,” he said.

To sustain the success of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), world leaders have set a goal for implementing the SDGs by 2030 aimed at ensuring health services for all, he said.

“This year, the World Health Organization has taken a special initiative to protect maternal and child health,” he said.

In this connection, the chief adviser said that post-uprising Bangladesh has already achieved many successes in the health sector.

Yunus said his government is firmly committed to ensuring health services for all women and children on a priority basis

“The interim government formed after the mass uprising of 2024 is committed to building Bangladesh as a safe and respected nation in the world,” he said.

The chief adviser wished every success to the programs of the day.
