Health Adviser Nurjahan Begum announced that reforms in the health sector would commence following the recommendations of the Health Sector Reform Commission.
She shared this during a discussion between the Ministry of Health and the Health Sector Reform Commission on Sunday.
The session was held to assess the preparations required to initiate the reforms.
During the over three-hour-long meeting, discussions covered primary healthcare, urban health management, drug management, procurement and PPR in the health sector, cancer treatment, forensic medicine, maternal health, curriculum and career planning for sector stakeholders, preventive care, the Health Protection Act, hospital management, and workforce shortages in the sector.
Professor AK Azad Khan, Chair of the Health Sector Reform Commission, said: “The Health Sector Reform Commission will provide the government with short, medium, and long-term policy-based recommendations on necessary reforms.”
He added: “The issues raised in the discussion meeting will be taken seriously by the commission. In this regard, the commission will consider the government’s financial capacity and the feasibility of implementing the recommendations.”
Dr Md Sayedur Rahman, Special Assistant to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, said: “Everyone expects the recommendations of the Health Sector Commission to be bold, people-friendly, and beneficial for healthcare.”
Other participants included members of the Health Commission, Md Saidur Rahman, Secretary of the Health Services Division, and Dr Md Sarwar Bari, Secretary of the Health Education and Family Welfare Division.
