Dengue deaths top 1,400 in Bangladesh

This year’s toll from dengue in Bangladesh crossed 1,400 on Sunday with 15 new fatalities reported till the morning.

As many as 2,103 patients were admitted to different hospitals in the 24 hours till 8am.

Bangladesh on September 2 and 20 recorded 21 deaths from dengue, the highest in a single day this year.

The death toll from dengue reached 1,408, a press release from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

During the period, 433 dengue patients were hospitalized in Dhaka city while 2,170 were admitted to different hospitals outside it.

"This year 1,408 deaths, the highest in a year since dengue was detected in 2000, have been reported from dengue disease; 281 died last year," the DGHS statement said.

With the new cases, the total number of patients rose to 279,904. In total 271,792 patients have been released from different hospitals out of the total number of patients.

A total of 6,704 dengue patients are undergoing treatment at different hospitals. Of them 2,020 are in Dhaka and 4,889 are outside the capital.
