Health Minister assures support as successful dengue vaccine trials progress

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has assured all possible support for the dengue vaccine as the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research, Bangladesh (icddr,b) completed successful phase 2 trials of the TB-005 dengue vaccine.

The health minister said: "The vaccine currently undergoing trials in our country. icddr,b is a reputable institution, and they have played a significant role in developing cholera vaccines previously. We will provide whatever assistance they require for this dengue vaccine.”

The minister made the statement at an event in Dhaka on Monday.

He said: “Phase two trials confirmed the vaccine's safety for both young people and adults while demonstrating its disease prevention effectiveness. Phase three trials are crucial for future vaccinations.”

The government is taking steps and seeking financial support in this regard, he added.

The health minister said: "With over 1,000 deaths from dengue in our country, our goal is zero casualties. We've imported about 700,000 saline bags, and 300,000 are already here. Local companies can make up to 5 million bags, but we need 3-4 million. We continue to import saline for safety, and private firms can also import if needed."
