MSF donates medical supplies to support diarrhoea treatment in Dhaka

The Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) in Bangladesh has donated medical supplies to the International Centre for Diarrhoeal Disease Research (icddr,b) in response to the increase in diarrhoea cases in the country.

This collaboration came about in response to a significant increase in the number of people suffering from acute watery diarrhoea seeking treatment in Dhaka hospitals since mid-March, said a press release on Sunday.

From April 3-8, the MSF was able to mobilize and donate a total of 5,000 litres of medication and saline solutions.

They also donated 12,700 packages of medical supplies including catheters, rehydration salts, and infection control supplies.

The MSF will continue to monitor the situation and collaborate closely with the icddr,b to provide any additional emergency support necessary, reads the press release.

According to the icddr,b statements, over 1,000 patients with diarrhoea are being admitted to hospitals in Dhaka everyday, and it is placing enormous pressure on their resources.

“The MSF will remain committed to supporting the ministry with what capacity we have available,” said the release.

Project Co-ordinator from Kamrangirchar Mohammad Abu Taher, medical team leader Jobin Joseph, Occupational Health Officer Imran Talukder visited Dr Baharul Alam, head of icddr,b with the medical supplies.
