Khulna has recorded a rapid rise in the Covid-19 cases, with the daily infection rate surging to 35% on Monday, up from 24% the previous day.
Of the 376 samples tested at the Khulna Medical College Hospital lab on Sunday, 126 came back positive, said KMCH Principal Mehedi Nawaz.
Relaxing lockdowns rules, movement of transports, not following health guidelines during mass vaccination and reluctance to use masks have led to the rising number of cases, said Dr Prakash Debnath, the spokesperson for the Covid unit at Sheikh Naser Specialized Hospital.
Currently, 131 people are undergoing treatment at Khulna’s Dedicated Coronavirus Hospital, 32 at Shahid Abu Naser Specialized Hospital’s Covid unit, 28 at Khulna General Hospital, 63 at KMCH and 41 at the Gazi Medical College Hospital, according to figures by the Khulna health authorities..
Khulna General Hospital covid unit focal person Dr Kazi Abu Rashed and KMCH covid unit spokesperson Dr Shuhash Ranjan Haldar both said following guidelines along with taking vaccines is imperative to control the spread of the virus.
