19 more die at RMCH Covid-19 unit in 24 hours

Nineteen more deaths were recorded at the Covid-19 unit of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning.

Of those deceased, eight had tested positive for Covid-19, and the rest had symptoms but had not been tested or did not have their test results.

Seven of them were aged above 61, 10 were 51 to 60, and two were 41 to 50, RMCH Director Shamim Yazdani told Dhaka Tribune.

Among them, six were from Rajshahi, three each from Natore, Naogaon and Pabna, two from Chapainawabganj and one each from Sirajganj and Bogra districts.

Yazdani said the hospital had counted a record number of 25 fatalities caused by Covid-19 on June 29 last since the pandemic began.

With the latest development, the overall death tally of Covid-19 patients at RMCH since July 1 now stands at 223 while 405 others died in June.

Sixty-three people were also admitted to the hospital’s Covid-19 unit in the last 24 hours till Tuesday morning, added the director.

Total 76 went home after recovering from the infectious disease during the same period.

Some 504 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital’s 454-bed Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 positivity rate continues to maintain an upward trend in the district. On Monday, 469 samples were tested, of which 158 were positive.

The infection rate increased to 33.69% from 29.63% the previous day.

Rajshahi division

A total of 1,008 more people have tested positive for Covid-19 in all eight districts of the division on Monday, taking the caseload to 69,061.

Of the total afresh positive cases, the highest 299 were detected in Rajshahi, including 240 in its city, followed by 186 in Pabna, 144 in Bogura, 115 in Naogaon, 109 in Sirajganj, 94 in Natore, 43 in Joypurhat and 18 in Chapainawabganj districts.

With 22 more fatalities from the disease reported on the day, the death toll reached 1,096, including 472 in Bogura, 196 in Rajshahi with 106 in its city and 122 in Chapainawabganj, said Dr Habibul Ahsan Talukder, divisional director of Health.

Among the infected people, 47,240 have, so far, been cured of the lethal virus with 812 new recoveries found on the day.

A total of 8,833 infected patients are now undergoing treatment at different designated hospitals here.

During the last 24 hours till 8am Tuesday, 654 more people have been sent to home and institutional quarantine afresh while 489 others were released from isolation.

Besides, all the positive cases for Covid-19 have, so far, been brought under necessary treatment while 15,814 were kept in isolation units of different hospitals for institutional supervision. Of them, 10,595 have by now been released.
