Covid-19: 15 more die at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in 24 hours

Fifteen more Covid-19 patients and patients with symptoms of the disease have died in Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH).

They died in the last 24 hours to Friday morning, sources confirmed.

Among them, seven had tested positive for Covid-19, and the other eight died with Covid-19 symptoms, said Dr Saiful Ferdous, deputy director at RMCH.

With the latest count, a total of 108 people have died at the Covid-19 unit of RMCH since June 1, 63 of whom tested positive for the disease.

Of the 15 deceased, eight were from Rajshahi district, six from Chapainawabganj district, and one from Natore district.

Between 8am Thursday and 8am Friday, 43 new patients have been admitted in the RMCH Covid-19 unit.

In light of the rapid decline in the Covid-19 situation in the division, the local authorities have decided to enforce an all-out lockdown for a week in Rajshahi metropolitan city, to be effective from 5pm on Friday.

Divisional Commissioner Dr Humayun Kabir made the announcement after an emergency meeting on Covid-19 on Thursday night.

5 more dead in Khulna Covid hospital, death toll rises to 300

Five more Covid-19 patients died in the last 24 hours to Friday morning in Khulna 100-bed Covid-19 hospital, raising the total death toll in the hospital to 300.

Dr Suhas Ranjan Das, spokesperson of the hospital, confirmed the matter on Friday morning.

At least 58 people were admitted at Khulna Covid-19 Hospital, taking the number of patients undergoing treatment there to 143.

During the same period, the rt-PCR laboratory at Khulna Medical College (KMC) tested 376 samples, of which 148 tested positive, at the rate of 39.36%.

This is the highest single-day Covid-19 infection rate tested at KMC so far, said KMC Vice-Principal Dr Mehedi Newaz.
