Bangladesh has registered 36 deaths from Covid-19 in the 24 hours to Wednesday morning.
With the latest development, the total number of deaths reached 12,949 in the country.
With 2,537 people testing positive over the same period, the number of total infections rose to 817,819.
This is the first time since April 29 that daily infections crossed the grim 2,500 mark.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 12.33%. As many as 20,584 samples, including the pending ones, were tested in the 510 authorized labs – government and private – across the country.
To date, 6,106,791 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 13.39%.
The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) revealed the latest figures on Covid-19 in the country with a press release on Wednesday.
Of the 36 deceased – 17 men and 19 women – 10 were from Khulna division, nine from Rajshahi, four from Rangpur, six each from Dhaka and Chittagong divisions, and one from Sylhet division.
All of them died while undergoing treatment at the different hospitals of the country.
Twenty-one of the deceased patients were aged above 60, eight between 51 and 60, four between 41 and 50, two aged between 31 and 40, and one was aged between 21 and 30.
So far, 9,319 men (71.97%) and 3,630 women (28.03%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
Since the beginning, 7,253 people have died in Dhaka division, 2,481 in Chittagong, 747 in Rajshahi, 835 in Khulna, 389 in Barisal, 480 in Sylhet, 497 in Rangpur, and 267 in Mymensingh.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.58%.
The health authorities said 2,267 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 757,569 patients – 92.63% – have made full recovery across the country.
Currently, 22,308 people are in isolation and 45,586 are quarantined.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December, 2019 and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 3,764,000 lives and infected as many as 174,802,000 people across the world till Wednesday afternoon, according to worldometer.
As many as 158,224,000 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has affected 220 countries and territories across the planet.
