A returnee from India has died in institutional quarantine at a Jessore hotel on Sunday.
Bimal Chandra Dey, who hailed from Shariatpur, had gone to the neighbouring country for cancer treatment.
The 60-year-old entered Bangladesh with his daughter and son-in-law through Benapole on May 8.
All of them had negative Covid-19 reports, said Civil Surgeon Sheikh Abu Shaheen.
“He passed away around 3:15pm on Sunday,” he said.
Bimal and his family were sent to the Balaka Hotel for the mandatory 14-day quarantine after they entered on May 8. Later, their samples were collected for another Covid-19 test.
Meanwhile, another 5 India returnees, who entered with negative Covid-19 reports, tested positive in an antigen test on May 15.
They have been moved to the Jessore General Hospital from the quarantine facility and their samples have been sent for an RT-PCR test, said health officials.
On May 13, another India returnee, 34-year-old Ambia Khatun, died in institutional quarantine in Jessore.
