Maleque: 900 tons of oxygen in stock for Covid patients

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque on Thursday said the government has stocked 900 tons of oxygen to treat Covid-19 patients while at present, the daily demand for oxygen is 70 to 80 tons for both general and coronavirus patients in the country.

“The demand of oxygen was 210 tons during the peak period of the second wave of Covid-19…current production capacity of oxygen in the country is 220 to 230 tons,” he told a virtual discussion on “Public-Private preparedness and emergency oxygen management to face the second wave of Covid-19,” an official release said.

Referring to neighboring country India’s severe shortfall of oxygen, Maleque said the government has stocked 900 tons of oxygen to face any devastating situation of coronavirus that may arise in the future.

He said: “A total of 450 tons have been stocked at public hospitals across the country. We will collect 40 tons of oxygen from a private company in next month while 40 more tons will be collected from another private company in the month of July.”
