A study conducted in Abu Dhabi has claimed that the Covid-19 vaccine developed by China’s Sinopharm is more than 90% effective at keeping patients out of hospitals.
None of the recipients of both doses of the vaccine died, while a significant decrease in the rate of new Covid-19 infections was recorded in the study, according to UAE media.
The researchers found that the majority of people infected after receiving the vaccine reported mild symptoms and did not require treatment in hospital.
The vaccine was 93% effective in preventing hospitalization and 95% effective against admission to intensive care, according to the study conducted by the Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre.
However, the authorities did not disclose how many people participated in the study or when the study was conducted.

Bangladesh on Thursday approved the Sinopharm vaccine for emergency use.
A shipment of 500,000 doses of vaccine would arrive in the country in two weeks as gifts, said Mahbubur Rahman, Director General, Directorate General of Drug Administration (DGDA).
The UAE study noted that people needed to continue following health safety guidelines even after receiving vaccines to restrict the spread of the virus.
The researchers said the chance of getting infected increased as the virus mutated, and that the chances of the virus mutating increased with its spread.
Additionally, the infection may lead to long-term health complications. The study found that post-Covid-19 syndrome might affect some senior citizens, people with chronic diseases and even healthy individuals.
Bangladesh has been administering the Covid-19 vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, which is 76% effective at preventing symptomatic illness.
Meanwhile, another Covid-19 vaccine developed by the US pharmaceutical company Pfizer Inc. has shown a more than 95% efficacy rate.
