Chittagong Field Hospital, first of its kind in the country, has decided to close down its operations as the Covid-19 patient turnout dropped down to zero.
The hospital formally suspended its services on Monday.
However, the hospital’s chief initiator Dr Bidduth Barua said that they have a plan to set up a full-fledged hospital at the same location.
Aiming to provide treatment to the coronavirus patients, the facility started its operations on April 21 with 60 beds at Faujdarhat area under Sitakunda upazila of Chittagong.

Dr Barua said that facility has been closed down because of zero turnout of patients and the matter has been formally notified to all the authorities concerned.
As many as 35 healthcare workers, including doctors, nurses and volunteers of the hospital provided services to the patients in the last four months.
Navana Group provided land at Faujdarhat of Sitakunda upazila for the field hospital. The site was selected considering its proximity to Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID).

As of August 31, 12644 people have recovered from the deadly viral disease.
Of them, 2,857 people recovered while undergoing treatment at different hospitals while 9787 people have recovered in home isolation. The total recovery rate so far stands at 74.14%.
As of August 31, a total of 270 people have succumbed to the infectious disease. The total death rate so far stands at 1.51%.
On April 3, Chittagong recorded the first case of Covid-19, while the district exceeded the 3,000 mark in coronavirus cases by June 2. Chittagong crossed 6,000-mark on June 19 and 10,000-mark on July 6.
On July 16, the number of Covid-19 positive cases crossed 12,000-mark.
