Bangladesh on Wednesday recorded 54 Covid-19 deaths -- the highest number of casualties recorded in a month -- while the total number of cases have crossed the 300,000 mark.
With the latest casualty figures, the number of total coronavirus fatalities in Bangladesh rose to 4,082.
The tally of infections has surged to 302,147 with 2,519 new cases being recorded between Tuesday and Wednesday.
Among the victims, 49 died at different hospitals and five at home.
A month ago on July 26, the country recorded 54 Covid-19 casualties for the last time.
In the past 30 days, the lowest 21 single-day coronavirus deaths were recorded on August 1.
The mortality rate for male patients now stands at 78.59% and for female patients at 21.41%, according to a press release issued by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
Dhaka, with 48.21%, tops the list among divisions with the greatest number of Covid-19 . It is followed by Chittagong with 22%, Khulna with 8.21%, Rajshahi with 6.76%, Sylhet with 4.56%, Rangpur with 4.19%, Barisal with 3.90%, and Mymensingh with 2.18%.
Over 300,000 cases recorded across Bangladesh
Bangladesh confirmed its first-ever coronavirus cases on March 8.
The country surpassed 100,000 cases in 103 days since the first detection.
However, it took only 30 days to cross the 200,000 mark on July 18, while the number of Covid-19 cases across the country crossed the 300,000 mark in 38 days.
Overall test positivity rate 20.34%
So far the health authorities have tested as many as 1,485,261 samples and 20.34% of those came out Covid-19 positive.
Meanwhile, in the past 24 hours, a total of 15,070 samples were tested at 92 authorized laboratories across the country.
Of them, 16.72%, were positive for the deadly virus.
The recovery count rose to 190,183 -- 62.94% -- after another 3,427 patients were discharged from hospitals in the last 24 hours.
The deaths registered till now account for 1.35% of the total number of infected. The country recorded its first fatality on March 18.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
Till 6:40pm on Wednesday, the fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 824,000 lives and infected more than 24,095,000 people globally, according to worldometer.
As many as 16,636,000 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the world.
