Bangladesh registered 39 more deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of total fatalities to 3,861.
The current trend of a recorded number of Covid 19 patients in Bangladesh is showing that the country is going to cross the 300,000 case mark this week.
Bangladesh crossed 200,000 on July 18, the 133 day after the confirmation of the first three Covid 19 cases in the country. The country crossed 250,000 mark on August 7.
According to the press release sent by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Friday afternoon it recorded 2,401 people having tested positive in the last 24 hours taking the number to 290,360.
Some 2,644 people tested positive on August 15, 2024 on August 16, 2595 on August 17, 3200 on August 18, 2747 on August 19 and 2868 on August 20, meaning the country recorded more than 2,000 per day in the past one week.
And it is apparent that with this rate the country will cross the 300,000 mark at the middle or late of the week.
Bangladesh is currently at the 16th position in terms of most Covid 19 confirmed cases in the world, worldometers listed.
Pakistan is at 15 position with only 630 new cases in last 24 hours while the total number of identified cases is 291,588 and Kingdom Saudi Arabia is at the 14th position with some 303,973 identified cases while they did not record any cases in last 24 hours, according to the site at 5.42pm.
It means the country could be moved to number 14th in this week as well.
Meanwhile, DGHS said Bangladesh has registered 39 more deaths from Covid-19 over the same period, taking the number of total fatalities to 3,861.
Of the 39 deceased -- 27 men and 12 women -- 23 were from Dhaka division, five from Chittagong, four from Sylhet, three from Khulna, two from Barisal and one each from Rajshahi and Mymensingh.
Among the victims, 36 died at different hospitals and three at home.

So far, 3,086 men (78.89%) and 815 women (21.11%) have died from Covid-19 across the country.
The mortality rate against the total number of cases detected so far stands at 1.33%.
The DGHS said 13,155 samples were collected from suspected Covid-19 patients in the last 24 hours.
As many as 12,943 samples were tested in the 91 authorized labs -- government and private -- across the country.
The latest figures show an infection rate of 18.55%.
To date, 1,420,499 tests have been conducted in the country, leading to an overall infection rate of 20.44% so far.
The health authorities said 3,624 people recovered from the disease over the preceding 24 hours.
So far, 172,615 patients — 59.45% of all infected — have made full recovery across the country.
On March 8, health authorities in Bangladesh reported the first three cases of Covid-19, a severe acute respiratory illness caused by a new coronavirus strain which was later named Sars-CoV-2.
The novel coronavirus broke out in China's Wuhan city in late December last year and quickly spread throughout the world, becoming a pandemic in less than three months.
The fast spreading coronavirus has claimed 797,485 lives and infected 22,885,368 people across the world till 4pm on Friday, according to Worldometer.
As many as 15,534,674 people have recovered from Covid-19 which has spread to 213 countries and territories across the planet.
The website also confirms that so far, the number of active cases stands at 6,553,209 globally. Of which, 6,491,364 (99%) were identified to be in mild condition while the rest 61,845 (1%) have been marked as serious or critical.
