The last time Dhaka division reported fewer than 10 deaths caused by Covid-19 before Saturday was back on May 28 when the division’s 24-hour death toll was just seven.
In the 24 hours till Saturday morning, 29 patients died of Covid-19 across the country, including nine in Dhaka division.
Dhaka Division, which includes a large number of coronavirus hotspots, thus saw the single day death toll slipping below double digits after some 38 days.
Of the seven fatalities reported on May 28, six deaths occurred in the capital alone, while the seventh was in Narayanganj, another major coronavirus hotspot in the country.
The development came as the health authorities provided details of the overall coronavirus situation in their daily online bulletin on Saturday.
Noticeably, the single day nationwide death toll dropped below 30 for the first time since June 5.
So far, there have been 159,679 reported cases of coronavirus infections in the country, while as many as 1,997 have died of it.
Dhaka logs most deaths, Mymensingh least
With 1,041 deaths, Dhaka division tops the list of fatalities, followed by Chittagong division, which has recorded 521 fatalities so far.
The estimate shows that Dhaka division alone accounts for more than 52% of the total deaths reported till date.
Rajshahi, Sylhet, Khulna, Barisal and Rangpur divisions reported 101, 84, 82, 67 and 53 deaths respectively. Mymensingh division has seen the lowest number of deaths—48.
Of the deceased, at least 1,587 were male.
