A 21-day lockdown has started in Wari area, under the jurisdiction of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), as a part of the government’s efforts to contain Covid-19.
The lockdown officially started from Saturday morning and will be in effect until July 25.
Local police and ward council volunteers are monitoring the lockdown measures in this coronavirus red zone.
''We are getting cooperation from most of the residents after the lockdown started at 6am, but some residents are uncooperative and want to go out citing various reasons. We are requesting them to stay inside their homes for their own, families’, and the neighbourhood’s safety,'' Inspector (Operation) Sujit Kumar Saha of Wari police station said.

Otherwise, all kinds of movements in these areas will be strictly restricted as per the government decision,” he said.
The areas under the purview of the lockdown are Tipu Sultan Road, Jahangir Road, Dhaka-Sylhet Highway (Joykali Temple to Balda Garden), Larmini Road, Hare Road, Wari Road, Rankin Street, and Nawab Road, under DSCC Ward 41.
The local ward council has formed a volunteer team to support the residents with necessities that they might require.
A general holiday has also been put into effect in Wari red zones, where all offices, businesses, shops, markets, and places of worship will remain shut, except for essential services such as pharmacies.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune on Saturday, DSCC Ward 41 Councillor Sarwar Hossain Alo said: “We have formed a volunteer team of 150 young men, already 50 of them are going door to door to help the residents with grocery shopping and other necessary errands.”
