141 Bangladeshis return home from Dubai

A special flight of US-Bangla Airlines on Tuesday repatriated 141 Bangladeshis who were stranded in the United Arab Emirates for over three months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

A special chartered flight (BS-352) ferrying the Bangladeshi passengers landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka from Dubai at 11:35am, said an airport security official.

The flight was operated with the support of Bangladesh Air Force Welfare Trust to facilitate the repatriation of Bangladeshi expatriates stranded in Dubai since the middle of March.

All passengers from Dubai had a Covid-19 negative certificate and were allowed to go home with the condition to remain in self-quarantine, said an airport health official.

So far, 1,063 people have returned from the UAE over the last six days.

A large number of Bangladeshi migrants were stranded in various cities in the UAE for more than three months due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
