Quader: DGHS DG’s statement is irresponsible, disappointing

Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader has deemed the comments made by the director-general (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) as irresponsible and disappointing.

He said that while the government is working tirelessly day and night to keep the morale of the people strong, the short-sighted and irresponsible statements of some health department officials about the lifespan of coronavirus have created frustration in the minds of people.

He requested them to refrain from such uncoordinated and unsolicited statements.

Obaidul Quader made the comment during a regular briefing at his official residence on Friday morning.

Noting that many of the frontline fighters in the coronavirus crisis have dedicated themselves to the service of the country and the nation, Obaidul Quader said: "The killing of a doctor in Khulna amid this situation is very sad and unfortunate."

He strongly condemned the killing and expressed his condolences to the family of the slain doctor.

The General Secretary of Awami League called upon the frontlines and all those concerned to be patient during this crisis and said that Sheikh Hasina’s government does not indulge in injustice, no matter how powerful the wrongdoer is.

The Minister for Road Transport and Bridges also called upon the leaders and workers of Bangladesh Awami League to cooperate with the administration in implementing the government's decision at the current stage of transmission.

He expressed hope that the party leaders and workers will play an active role in implementing the decision of Sheikh Hasina, the last hope, a beacon of light, the shelter amid the crisis.

Obaidul Quader said that after the zone-based lockdown decision is finalized, it should be implemented quickly and effectively by ensuring good coordination.

He also called upon the people in the areas where lockdown would take place to deal with the situation patiently.

The Awami League general secretary further said: "By the grace of almighty we will hopefully overcome this crisis with everyone’s cooperation under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina."
