DGHS: Keeping oxygen cylinders at home not right

The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has urged all not to buy and stock oxygen cylinders at home due to the dangers associated with it.

Additional Director General (Administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) Prof Nasima Sultana said while addressing the daily online bulletin on the Covid-19 situation from Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon. 

“This is a technical issue. Please do not buy and stock these [oxygen cylinders]. This will create an artificial shortage in the market.”

She also said that only a doctor can prescribe how much oxygen a patient will need per minute, and urged all not to invite danger to their lives by such activities.

Meanwhile, Bangladesh on Tuesday witnessed the highest number of Covid-19 deaths in a single day with 45 deaths and another 3,171 people tested positive in the last 24 hours. 

The record of deaths and cases comes at a time when the country has reopened operations of all offices, businesses, and transports on limited scale, after the end of the general holiday which was extended in phases until May 30 to control the spread of coronavirus pandemic. 

The limited reopening will remain in force until June 15. 

With the latest figure of deaths, the number of total fatalities rose to 975.

Meanwhile, the number of total confirmed cases surpassed the 71,000 mark with the fresh infections, jumping to 71,675.
