The number of Covid-19 cases across the world has been increasing day by day, with the daily new cases hitting a new high globally on Friday.
Under the circumstance, the countries are emphasizing on expanding the number of Covid-19 tests to check the spread of the pandemic, which broke out from China’s Wuhan city in December last year.
According to data on worldometer website on Saturday morning, among the top 20 Covid-19-hit countries, Qatar was the one with the highest number of testing among one million of its citizens.
Being the 19th worst hit country, the Middle Eastern country had the highest rate of 87,742 tests per million people, followed by Spain (86,920), Russia (82,599), the United Kingdom (76,837), Italy (68,046), and the USA (61,264).
Bangladesh, the 20th worst-hit country on the list of Covid-19 cases, also placed 20th in its testing capacities per million people, standing behind its South Asian neighbour Pakistan.
Bangladesh is currently testing 2,263 samples for every one million people, while Pakistan is testing 2,995 people in a million.
Bangladesh’s National Technical Advisory Committee for Covid-19 has recommended conducting a minimum of 20,000 tests every day. But the highest number of tests conducted in a single day in the country so far is 14,088, which took place across 50 labs between Thursday and Friday mornings.
Since the first three cases were recorded on March 8, a total of 372,365 Covid-19 tests have been conducted in Bangladesh and 60,391 found infected.
Another South Asian country, India is testing 3,281 samples from each million population.
Brazil’s situation is not any better as the country reported second highest number of Covid-19 cases among the top 20 worst-hit nations and fifth-lowest testing rate (4,706) per million.
Although, China stood at 18th among the top 20, no data regarding the country’s total number of tests and number of tests per million were found on worldometer.
