Chougachha Upazila Health Complex resident medical officer (RMO) Dr Nahid Siraj, who was infected with coronavirus, has been airlifted to Dhaka by a Bangladesh Air Force (BAF) helicopter.
The chopper arrived in Dhaka at 8:50pm on Friday and the patient was rushed to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, said Inter Services Public Relations Directorate (ISPR).
The helicopter took off from BAF Base Matiur Rahman in Jessore at 8:02pm and landed at the BAF Base Bashar in Dhaka at 8:50 pm, it added.
During the air journey, Dr Anjum Sonia and Dr Uttam accompanied Dr Nahid as attendants.
Jessore district Civil Surgeon Dr Shaikh Abu Shahin told Dhaka Tribune that Dr Nahid was found to be Covid-19 positive on May 4.
Since then, the RMO had been in isolation at his health complex quarter. He had some breathing complications since long, said the civil surgeon.
However, a few days ago, Dr Nahid’s breathing problems started increasing as well as the oxygen saturation in his blood was decreasing, he added.
When his health started deteriorating, he was admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital two to three days ago, said the civil surgeon adding that specialist doctors were taking care of him.
“Later, we formed a board on Friday evening and referred him to Dhaka,” said Dr Sheikh Abu Shahin.
