The government has designated two private hospitals in Chittagong city to treat Covid-19 patients, as the number of cases across the country continue to rise.
The hospitals are Bangabandhu Memorial Hospital (BBM) in Pahartoli and Imperial Hospital Limited in Khulsi.
Both hospitals have been instructed to take necessary measures to dedicatedly treat those who have tested positive for the deadly virus in the district, said a press release issued by the Health Ministry on Tuesday.
The decision to designate these hospitals was taken following a request from the Public Security Division and the Chittagong District Administration, said the release.
As of Tuesday, Bangladesh confirmed 36,751 Covid-19 cases and 522 deaths.
Till now, the fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 349,000 lives and infected more than 5,639,000 people globally, according to worldometer.
