Coronavirus: 72 more policemen recover in 24hrs

72 policemen have recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

They were discharged from the capital’s Rajarbagh Central Police Hospital (CPH) on Sunday afternoon. 

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune, Assistant Inspector General (Media) of Police Headquarters, Md Sohel Rana, said: “A total of 147 policemen have so far won the battle against coronavirus across the country. 

“A special team has been formed to take care of those police officials who have been infected with this deadly virus. We have prepared multiple hospitals with all the modern facilities in and out of Dhaka for the treatment of our men. Thus, they are recovering quickly.”   

According to sources, until now 1,548 policemen have tested positive for coronavirus across the country. 745 are from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP). 

In the past 24 hours, 16 police officials were infected by the deadly virus.

They said at least 2,870 members of Bangladesh Police are currently under quarantine and 1,089 are in isolation to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Since the first detection on March 8, seven police officials working on the frontlines of the ongoing crisis, have died from Covid-19.

As of Sunday, Bangladesh confirmed 14,657 coronavirus cases with the death toll rising to 228 after 14 new fatalities were reported.

Till now the fast-spreading coronavirus has claimed more than 259,000 lives and infected more than 4,120,000 people globally, according to Worldometer.

As many as 1,450,000 people have recovered from Covid-19, which has spread to 210 countries and territories across the world.
