Health minister: No separate hospitals for treating VIP Covid-19 patients

Health Minister Zahid Maleque has said that no separate hospitals will be arranged or setup to treat VIP Covid-19 patents.

He said this during the daily online health bulletin on the ongoing coronavirus pandemic in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.

Maleque said: “We have noticed that several media outlets havepublished stories regarding separate hospitals being readied for VIPs amid the ongoing coronavirus crisis. This is not true."

“I would urge them not to report on such issues without our official confirmation. As a result of this, there has been a misunderstanding which is beyond government policy.”

According to some recent media reports, the government wanted to treat VIP Covid-19 patients in dedicated hospitals as heath professionals are struggling to provide healthcare to the masses due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Denying the allegations, the minister said: “All hospitals remain open, and will not be closed. Regular treatments will continue.”

As of Thursday, Bangladesh has confirmed 4,186coronavirus cases with the death toll rising to 127 after seven new fatalities were reported.

The fast spreading Covid-19 has so far killed 185,000 people in more than 200 countries and territories.
