Foods and goods transportation through waterways to continue

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury has said that there will be no disruption in the food and good transportation using inland waterways due to the coronavirus crisis situation.

“We have taken every necessary step to keep the system alive,” he said.

He made the statement in a meeting with the Cargo Vessel Owners’ Association, at the secretariat on Wednesday.

Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury sought the cooperation of cargo vessel owners and container ship owners in this regard.

“The lives of the cargo workers will not be threatened, owners have to assure workers’ health protection,” said the state minister

“Owners of cargo vessels will look after the safety of workers. We will look after the issues of the cargo owners,” he added.

In the meeting the cargo vessel owners raised the issue of incentive packages as they are working amid the coronavirus crisis situation, the state minister replied saying he will discuss the matter with government higher officials.

Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury also said: “We cannot put a stop to life; the way of life has changed due to coronavirus in the last one month. We have to realize the current situation and continue our work.”
