The labour counsellor at Bangladesh mission in Saudi Arabia’s Jeddah has tested positive for Covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus.
The matter was disclosed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka on Saturday.
The ministry said the mission official has been efficiently performing his duties in the Bangladesh mission there, reports UNB.
He also worked with the Saudi Arabian administration at a camp in Medina to convince around 4,000 Bangladeshi workers to go for coronavirus testing procedures recently.
Praying for the official's quick recovery, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen urged all officials at Bangladesh missions abroad to follow the health guidelines properly and carefully.
Over 200 Bangladesh nationals have died so far from Covid-19 in 11 countries, including the US and the UK, while many more tested positive, according to community leaders and journalists abroad.
The highest number of Bangladeshi expatriates died in the US and the UK.
Until Friday afternoon, Bangladesh recorded a total of 1,838 Covid-19 cases and deaths of 75 people.
Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia recorded over 7,140 Covid-19 cases and 87 deaths until Saturday.
Across the world, until Saturday, the novel coronavirus has infected more than 2,250,700 people and killed over 154,200, since it originated from China’s Wuhan city in late December last year.
