Coronavirus: Police more active in evening to preventing muggings

Police have become more active in the evening, in order to protect pharmacies and small shops from muggers during the lockdown to prevent spread of Covid-19.

Md Sohel Rana, assistant inspector general (AIG-media) of police headquarters, said there has been a change in the pattern of criminal activities during the coronavirus situation.

“We have noticed an increase in robbery incidents at medicine stores in the evening,” he said during a video message on Friday.

“Police are aware of this. We have increased our patrols and surveillance in areas where there are medicine stores, especially in the evening,” he added.

“There are CCTV cameras in many places in our city. We are also taking help from them,” the AIG-media further said.

He also advised pharmacy operators, to be more alert during transactions and to not allow anyone to enter the store.

“Whenever we receive news of any muggings, we send our team to find the culprit and try our best to take action against them,” he said.
