Coronavirus: Chittagong General Hospital receives ICU equipment including ventilators

Chittagong General Hospital (CGH), with the aim of providing treatment to coronavirus patients of the district, is soon going to open an Intensive Care Unit (ICU).  

Confirming the matter to Dhaka Tribune on Tuesday, Dr Ashim Kumar Nath, superintendent of CGH, said they have received 10 ICU beds and 10 ventilators for treating Covid-19 cases.

“A technical team will come from Dhaka to the hospital to install the ICU equipment and other facilities like a central oxygen supply system and negative air pressure,” he added.

A 100 isolation beds at CGH, 50 isolation beds at Bangladesh Institute of Tropical and Infectious Diseases (BITID), and 30 isolation beds, including four ICU beds at Chittagong Medical College Hospital, have been kept ready for coronavirus patients.

Contacted, Chittagong Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Fazle Rabbi said 162 samples have so far been tested at the BITID, of which only two were Covid-19 positive.

“The two coronavirus infected patients are now undergoing treatment at the isolation ward of CGH. As of Tuesday, 98 individuals were put under home quarantine in Chittagong.

“Of the 7,895 PPEs (personal protective equipment) collected, we have already distributed 4,070 of them to medical personnel. 673 doctors and 905 nurses have been kept ready to treat patients with coronavirus infection,” he added.
