Gonoshasthaya Kendra Founder Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury says that coronavirus does not spread from the dead bodies of patients, so victims can be buried or cremated according to their respective religions.
In a press release issued in this regard on Monday, Dr Zafrullah said that Muslims who have died of coronavirus infection can be given an Islamic Shariah burial without any fear of coronavirus infection.
He also told followers of other faiths to give a proper burial or cremation to coronavirus victims according to their respective religions.
He said that coronavirus cannot survive in a dead patient’s body nor can it multiply itself there, adding: “Covid-19 doesn’t spread from the dead. If the victim’s body is washed with soap according to the religious principles, the virus cannot spread.”
Meanwhile, officials of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) also confirmed that coronavirus cannot spread from a dead body after reports started to emerge of panic stricken people obstructing burials of Covid-19 victims across Bangladesh.
Earlier, the World Health Organization (WHO) gave some guidelines regarding the burial procedure for coronavirus victims.
It said that relatives of Covid-19 patients may attend funerals but should avoid touching the dead body.
