The government has suspended six high-ranking police officers for alleged negligence in professional duties, unauthorized absence from work and disobedience of government rules.
The Home Ministry’s Disciplinary-1 Branch issued separate notifications on Wednesday, ordering the suspensions with immediate effect.
The suspended officers are Mohammad Iqbal Hossain, superintendent of police at the Range DIG’s Office in Khulna and former deputy commissioner of police of Wari Division, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP); Kazi Ashraful Azim, former deputy commissioner of police of Uttara Division, DMP; Biplob Kumar Sarker and Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, both former joint commissioners of police of DMP; Airport Armed Police Battalion (APBN) Additional Superintendent of Police Rajan Kumar Das; and DMP Assistant Commissioner Golam Ruhani.
According to the notifications, Iqbal Hossain has been absent from work since August 28, 2024, while Ashraful Azim has been absent since August 14, 2024.
Biplob Kumar Sarker and Sudip Kumar Chakraborty have been absent since August 6 and August 22, 2024, respectively.
Rajan Kumar Das, Additional Superintendent of Police of 8 APBN, who was posted at Ukhia in Cox’s Bazar, has been absent since December 31, 2024.
Golam Ruhani has been absent from work since August 8, 2024.
The notifications said the officers remained absent for prolonged periods without permission from the authorities concerned.
Several attempts were made to contact them at their present and permanent addresses and through email, but they did not respond, according to the ministry.
