Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has said the government disbursed Tk 213.56 crore in financial assistance to the families of people killed and injured in road accidents from 2023 to May 2026.
He came up with the disclosure on Monday during the second session of the 13th National Parliament and the seventh sitting of the first budget session, while responding to a supplementary question raised by reserved seat lawmaker Nipun Roy Chowdhury.
He said a total of 5,084 individuals and families affected by road accidents received financial support during the period. Of them, 3,881 were families of deceased victims, while 829 were injured and 374 were critically injured persons.
The minister added that the assistance was provided from a dedicated welfare fund for victims of road accidents.
