The government has appointed full-time administrators to 42 district councils across Bangladesh, according to a notification issued by the Local Government Division on Sunday.
The appointments were made under Section 82A(1) of the District Council Act, 2000, inserted through the District Council (Amendment) Ordinance, 2024, the notification said.
Earlier, the government had appointed administrators to 11 city corporations as part of efforts to strengthen local government administration.
According to the gazette, the appointed administrators will serve as full-time heads of the respective district councils until further orders.
According to the announcement, Mohammad Touhidul Islam has been appointed administrator of Panchagarh district, Mofazzal Hossain Dulal in Dinajpur, and Mohammad Saiful Islam in Rangpur. Md Sohel Hossain Kaikobad has been named administrator for Kurigram, while Prof Dr Syed Mainul Hasan Sadiq will serve in Gaibandha.
Md Masud Rana Pradhan has been appointed in Joypurhat, AKM Ahasanul Tayyab Zakir in Bogra, Md Harunur Rashid in Chapainawabganj, Md Abu Bakkar Siddique in Naogaon, Md Ershad Ali in Rajshahi, and Md Rahim Newaz in Natore.
In the southwest region, Md Javed Masud has been appointed for Meherpur, Sohrab Uddin for Kushtia, Md Abul Majid for Jhenaidah, and Delwar Hossain Khan Khokon for Jessore. Ali Ahmed will serve in Magura, Sheikh Mohammad Zakir Hossain in Bagerhat, and SM Monirul Hasan (Bappi) in Khulna.
In the coastal belt, Snehangshu Sarkar has been appointed administrator for Patuakhali, Golam Nabi Alamgir for Bhola, Akon Quddusor Rahman for Barishal, Md Shahadat Hossain for Jhalakati, and Alamgir Hossain for Pirojpur.
For the central and greater Mymensingh regions, SM Obaidul Haque has been appointed for Tangail, ABM Mamunur Rashid for Sherpur, Syed Emran Saleh for Mymensingh, Md Nuruzzaman (Ed) for Netrakona, and Khaled Saifullah Sohel Khan for Kishoreganj.
AKM Iradat will serve as administrator of Munshiganj, Md Mamun Mahmud in Narayanganj, Abdus Salam Mia in Rajbari, and Sharif Rafiq Uzzaman in Gopalganj. Khondaker Mashukur Rahman has been appointed for Madaripur, while Sardar AKM Nasir Uddin will serve in Shariatpur.
In the northeastern region, Md Mizanur Rahman Chowdhury has been appointed administrator for Sunamganj, Abul Kaher Chowdhury for Sylhet, and Mizanur Rahman for Moulvibazar.
Meanwhile, Sirajul Islam has been appointed for Brahmanbaria, Md Mostak Mia for Comilla, Md Harunur Rashid Azad for Noakhali, Sahab Uddin for Lakshmipur, and ATM Nurul Bashar Chowdhury for Cox’s Bazar.
The notification said the appointed administrators will exercise the powers and perform the responsibilities of district council chairmen in accordance with Section 82A(3) of the amended law. They will also be entitled to allowances as per the rules.
The order, issued in the public interest with approval from the competent authority, has taken effect immediately, the notification added.
