A Supreme Court lawyer has written to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, urging him to take steps to prevent President Md Shahabuddin from addressing the inaugural session of Parliament, citing the need to uphold the spirit of the July coup.
Barrister ASM Shahriar Kabir submitted the letter on Monday.
In the letter, he proposed that a member of parliament be tasked with electing a speaker, who would then convene and address the opening session of the House. Alternatively, he urged the prime minister to take appropriate measures at his discretion.
