Eight advisers to PM assigned portfolios

The government has finalized the portfolios of eight advisers to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, who were appointed to minister and state minister ranks in the new administration. The assignments were made official Friday through a notification issued by the Cabinet Division.

Earlier, on Tuesday, the government had appointed a total of 10 advisers, leaving two without assigned portfolios for the time being.

Minister-rank advisers and their portfolios

According to the notification, five advisers at the minister rank have been given key responsibilities:

  • Political Advisers: Senior leaders Mirza Abbas Uddin Ahmed, Nazrul Islam Khan, and Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed have been appointed as the prime minister’s political advisers.
  • Public Administration: Md Ismail Zabiullah has been assigned as adviser for the Ministry of Public Administration.
  • Finance: Economist Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir has been given responsibility as adviser to the Ministry of Finance.

State minister-rank advisers and their portfolios

Three advisers at the state minister rank have been assigned portfolios across multiple ministries:

  • Brigadier General (retd) Shamsul Islam has been given responsibility for the Ministry of Defence.
  • Education and Labour: Mahdi Amin will oversee four key ministries: Education, Primary and Mass Education, Expatriate Welfare and Overseas Employment, and Labor and Employment.
  • Information Technology and Science: Rehan Asif Asad has been assigned the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology, and the Ministry of Science and Technology.

Government officials at the policy-making level believd that the new portfolio allocations will enhance administrative efficiency across the respective ministries. The portfolios for the remaining two advisers are expected to be announced at a later date.
